Site Code: 2005
848 W Fremont St.
Stockton CA 95203
San Joaquin County Public Health Services,Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD) has reviewed
Work Plan for Additional Subsurface Investigation and Site Characterization dated June 9, 1999 prepared
by Apex Envirotech, Inc. PHS/EHD has approved this work plan with the following conditions. A
facsimile of this work plan approval with conditions was sent to Apex on August 2, 1999.
1. Proposed Geoprobe boring west of the underground storage tank (see map contained in the work
plan) is unnecessary. Soil analytical data exists from previous soil investigation in the vicinity.
2, Proposed Geoprobe boring furthest to the east of tank may possibly be excluded if field data and
observation indicate the contamination plume to be delineated in that direction.
3. Proposed Geoprobe borings should be advanced to at least 20 feet below surface grade (bsg). Strong
petroleum hydrocarbon odor was noted in the soil at 15 feet bsg by PHS/EHD field staff during
the construction of monitoring well#3. Be prepared to continue to advance proposed Geoprobe
borings to greater depth in order to define the vertical limit of the contamination. At least 2
consecutive clean five-foot soil samples (by field screening tools such as photo-ionization detector or
flame-ionization detector) should be used as a guideline for termination of advancement.
4. For this investigation, use EPA Method 8260 for testing of Methyl tert-buytl ether.
5. Selection of soil samples for analyses must include PHS/EHD comments and agreement.
6. A working and properly calibrated screening tool such as flame-ionization detector or photo-
ionization detector must be on hand throughout the duration of the work.
7. Recommend use of real ice for temperature control for sample preservation. If blue ice or frozen
bottles of water are used,a thermometer should be kept in the ice chest to verify the 4'C
temperature has been achieved
S. Schedule work with PHS/EHD at least 48 hours in advance.
9. Work must commence by September 20, 1999.
Please direct any questions to Jeffrey Wong at (209) 468-0335.
Donna Heran,RENS,Director
Environmental Health Division _
ijeffrey'Wong, RENS Margaret agorio, REHS
LOP/Site Mitigation Unit IV Supervisor
C: RWQCB, Central Valley Region-Mark List
C: Apex Envirotech, Inc. --Scott Bell
A Division of Sart Joaquin County health Care Services
