Hunter and Associates for the above
referenced site. The recommendation stated in the report is that no further work is required because
the source has been removed, the plume in soil and groundwater has been thoroughly defined, and
the water table is unsuitable for domestic use.
The level of contamination in MW2 is constant before and after source removal. If monitoring well data
is provided to this agency, to support the conclusion that the plume is stable or declining, such as four
quarters showing a declining trend in contamination in MW2, the site may be considered for closure.
The amount of contamination in the vadose zone must be mass balanced and the loading rate of that
contamination on the groundwater must be modelled. The results of a computer model may provide a
rationale for closure.
The determination that certain groundwater aquifers are not of sufficient quality to be considered
suitable for domestic use is based upon turbidity and yield. Aquifers with turbidity less than 3,000 ppm
and sufficient water to supply a sustained yield of 200 gallons per day are considered suitable for
municipal or domestic supply. This data was not presented in the report.
If the computer modelling, or the monitoring well data indicates that the plume is not stable or
declining, and/or the aquifer data indicates that this is a potential water supply aquifer, PHSIEHD may
require additional remediation of the soil and or the groundwater plume.
In order to process a site closure request, a closure report which conforms with Appendix B of the Tri
Regional guidelines must be submitted to this agency.
For additional information please contact Steven Sasson at (209) 468-3459.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Division
Steven Sas n, Senior REHS Margareagorio, REHS
Site Mitigation Unit Lead Senior
SS
cc: Wm.
