Task 3 - Groundwater Monitoring
Monthly monitoring of DO, redox, pH, electrical conductivity, temperature, and
groundwater elevations are proposed for all four wells. The monthly readings will
be conducted for a period of three months following placement of the ORCO. At
the conclusion of the third month, a second groundwater sample will be collected
from well MW-2 and analyzed for the following parameters to evaluate ongoing
indigenous conditions:
Heterotrophic Plate Count
Phosphate
Ammonia Nitrogen
Chemical Oxygen Demand
Biological Oxygen Demand
Additionally, quarterly groundwater monitoring and sampling will be conducted
for the three perimeter monitoring wells at this time.
The ORCO is anticipated to last from three to six months. At the end of the third
month, the potency of the ORCO will be evaluated and, if found to be sufficient,
a second three-month monitoring episode will be conducted.
Task 4 - ORCO Evaluation
Upon depletion of the ORCO, the sock will be removed and the wells will be
allowed to stabilize. Upon stabilization, a minimum of two complete auart
sampling and monitoring episodes will be conducted. At least one of the
sampling episodes will include analysis for petroleum oxygenates. Results of the
quarterly sampling, along with the monthly data measured during the ORCO
placement, will be used to evaluate the effectiveness of ORCO at the site.
If found to be effective, then the degree of biodegradation will be evaluated and
a decision made as to whether additional ORCO should be installed. If
warranted, a second application and/or a more aggressive approach to the
ORCO placement will be proposed.
Task 5 - Mass Balance Calculation
Per your request, as part of the ORCO evaluation, a mass balance calculation
will be performed. The mass balance calculation will assess, as best possible,
the approximate quantity of contaminants removed and/or remediated relative to
the approximate quantity initially released to the environment.
Task 6 - Brief Summary Report
A brief report will be prepared summarizing the results of the ORCO placement
and the evaluation conclusions. Included in the report will be recommendations
for additional ORCO placement, if warranted. The report will also present the
mass balance quantities calculated from Task 5.
JJW GEOSCIENCES Inc.
