The requirements,
specifications and procedures presented with this plan will apply to
all personnel on the site, including employees, sub--contractors,
consultants, visitors, and' regulatory agency personnel .
HAZARD- ANALYSIS
The most significant risk associated with petroleum contaminated
soil is exposure to aromatic. compounds. Skin contact will be
reduced or eliminated by use of appropriate clothing , eye wear , and
gloves, and the inhalation hazard will be minimized by using proper
respiratory protective devices as determined by on-site conditions.
If deemed necessary, the Safety Coordinator/Project Manager will
establish an exclusion cone of a minimum of a OV foot radius around
the work area. Access to this zone will be limited to authorized
personnel only. If required by the particular site conditions,
total organic vapors .will be monitored within the exclusion zone
using appropriate detection equipment. Current enforceable and
recommended exposure limits for potential site contaminants are
presented in Table 1 .
PERSONNEL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
Unless otherwise determined from record review or prior work, a
minimum of US EPA level D protection will be required within the
exclusion zone for any workers engaged in sample collection or other
similar activities• on .the site. Level O protection will include:
# Disposable Tyvek coverall (when in contact with contaminated
material )
# Soots with steel toe.
# Splash goggles or safety glasses
#.
