Woodbridge Design Guidelines <br /> Chapter 7-Appendices <br /> Exterior The renovation,restoration or expansion of historic resources, <br /> modification which alters the physical appearance of the structure(s) or <br /> architectural features thereof, visible from a public right-of-way. <br /> This definition does not include the repainting of a structure. <br /> Facade The exterior face of a building extending from grade to top of the <br /> parapet,wall or eave and the entire width of each building <br /> elevation. <br /> Fenestration The arrangement, proportioning and design of windows and doors <br /> of a building. <br /> Freestanding signs Signs in a fixed location which are self-supporting on the ground, <br /> and are in no part supported by a permanent structure (includes <br /> pole signs and monument signs). <br /> Frontage The area on the piece of property that lies adjacent to the street; the <br /> area between the street and the main entrance to the building;the <br /> front fagade of a building where the main entrance to the building <br /> is located. <br /> Gable Roof A double sloping roof that creates a gable at each end. <br /> Guideline Signifies recommendations that are strongly encouraged. <br /> Guidelines are listed using the terms "should"and "may". <br /> Hip Roof A roof having four uniformly pitched sides. <br /> Historic district The area of Woodbridge identified as the commercial core <br /> consistent with the boundaries of the Community Commercial (C- <br /> C) zoning designation, which contains buildings that may or may <br /> not be landmarks which contribute to the overall historic character <br /> of the designated area. <br /> Historic resource The physical link with a community's historic past. The San <br /> Joaquin County General Plan establishes four historic resources <br /> within the District. <br /> Italianate The Italianate style was part of the Picturesque movement <br /> Architecture imported from Europe, inspired by the breezy openness of <br /> (circa 1840s Italian villas. Italianate buildings have a boxy or square feeling to <br /> through 1890s) them, distinguished by the heavy use of ornamental brackets, set <br /> under door and window hoods. <br />
