Sections listed refer to the Requirements Checklist completed
on July 22, 2004.
4.1 & 4.2: We believe you are suggesting that the round water gradient across the Site will be ?
Y gg g g
steep because of the adjacent ground water recharge area. The ground water data referred to in
our report is regional and cannot be used to predict an exact gradient across the Site. However,
we have typically found that geological layers of low permeability separate shallow ground water
from the deeper aquifers tapped by drinking water wells.
5.4 & 6.7: In the past, EHD staff have suggested that filter bed systems are appropriate for t
situations involving rapid percolation rates and sandy soil conditions. We understand from these
discussions that the growth of a biological mat and film will develop and greatly reduce the
percolation rate. We believe that a filter bed system will be appropriate for this site when coupled
with the recommendation below.
6.7: We agree with your suggestion that the septic tank size should be enlarged above the
minimum requirement for the proposed residence. The enlarged size will increase eluent
retention time, which should result in a reduced impact to ground water. Specifically, we
recommend using the next larger tank size above the EHD Onsite Waste Water Disposal
Standards. For example, a one to three bedroom house should use a 1,600-gallon tank instead of
LODI ■ SACRAMENTO ■ MODESTO
ENVIRONMENTAL DIVISION 902 Industrial Way,Lodi,California 95240 ■209.367.3701 ■ 209.369.4228 fax ■www.noandersonxom
