U
2.0 Soil Excavation and Confirmation Sampling
On December 18, 2000, soils beneath the two fuel dispensers were°excavated and stockpiled by a
contractor working under the direction of the Company. The excavated soil was temporarily
L: stored on site and placed on and covered with visqueen. Figixre 2 shows the locations of the
excavations and the soil stockpile. Approximately 3 cubic yards of soil was removed from
beneath the northern gasoline dispenser and approximately 22 cubic yards of soil was removed
i
from beneath the southern diesel dispenser. A representative of the San Joaquin County Public
+ Health Services,Environmental Health Division observed the soil removal. Appendix B
1
contains a photographic log of the excavations and stockpiles.
On the same day, IT Corporation collected confirmation soil, samples from the excavations and
one four-point composite sample from the soil stockpile under the direction of the San Joaquin
County Public Health Services,Environmental Health Division representative. The locations of
the confirmation samples are shown on Figure 2.
The soil samples were collected using a 2-inch-diameter hana auger and hand-operated
percussion sampling equipment. The percussion sampler was equipped with stainless steel
' sample tubes. The sample tube was sealed with Teflon®tape
and plastic end caps and labeled
with project number, sample designation, and sampling date.!The samples were placed in a
cooled ice chest and logged on chain-of-custody documentation. The sampling equipment was
decontaminated between sample locations to prevent cross contamination of samples.
a The soil samples were submitted to a state-certified analytical laboratory (Chromalab, Inc.,
Pleasanton, California) for analyses of TPHG and TPHD using USEPA Modified Method 8015; p
BTEX using USEPA Method 8020; MTBE using USEPA Method 8260A; PCBs by USEPA
Method 8082; Oil and Grease using USEPA Method 1664; and total lead using USEPA
r Method 6010B.
a
SacDP-\VACRFPACOMMOMsacDIV O011PR"JU21924.1 aa.doc
4/11/01
f
