He concurred that it will probably be difficult to
eliminate the MTBE entirely to ND levels by just local excavation work alone. In regards
to the diesel TPH, I explained to him that the pea gravel beneath the diesel dispenser
i extends at least six feet laterally and is approximately 8 feet in depth. This is a )
result of the last dig-out made in 2000. Excavating the pea gravel to reach underlying
soil would undercut the adjacent structures for quite a]distance. He agreed that,
considering the facility is extremely adament about returning the fueling facility to
operation expeditiously, it makes more sense to do a limited site study at a later date.
At my request, Robert discussed this with Margaret Legorio of San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Department. According to Robert, Margaret has agreed to allow the `
installation work of the new under. dispenser containments (UDC's) to proceed immediately.
She will follow-up at a later date with a letter requesting PG&E to address the indicated
contamination. Based on this information, please resume with the UDC installation work at
{ both the unleaded gasoline and diesel islands. f
On another note, the fire inspector, Kent Miller, called here and left a voice mail
message. He said that you had called several days ago 'land that he is waiting for a
permit application for the underground tank work. He further said that he will not
inspect any underground piping until after he has reviewed and approved the application.
Please get an application in so that the uncovered components can be inspected and back !
filled. If there is anything I can do to help get the application in, please let me know.
Anything. I've got a car, a pen, a phone, a fax, a PC, ;Ia drawing program, and a charge
card. We've got. to get this job moving. Please let me 'know what I can do.
Please call me if you have any questions.
Gary Pforr
Project Manager
Building Design and Project Services
Corporate Real Estate Dept.
Office: 8/441-6707 or (925) 674-6707
Pager: (925) 509-5023
Cell: (925) 586-7901
1
