Waste Determination
NOTE:
Waste determination is the initial step in ensuring accurate and proper disposal of our waste.
Proper determination of waste reduces PG&E's liability.
1.1 Determine if you have a solid waste according to federal regulations as described below.
1.2 Solid waste does not refer literally to the physical state, but is either:
• Any material that is no longer used for its original purpose and will be discarded or
relinquished (e.g., a contaminated rag, expired product, or rinse water).
• A material that must be reclaimed or reprocessed before reuse (e.g., used oil or
antifreeze).
1.3 IF you have a common waste stream, and you are familiar with the process and confident in
the components of the waste stream, THEN proceed to 2. Waste Profile Determination.
1.4 IF you cannot determine that there is an existing profile, THEN contact the local EFS
and/or the Environmental Standards and Systems (ES&S) hazardous waste profiler or
delegate to establish a profile for the waste stream. Environmental Remediation profiles
may be managed by the Environmental Compliance and Records Specialist.
NOTE:
If you know or suspect that the waste is hazardous, be prepared to supply the information
outlined in 3. Steps to Creating a New Profile prior to contacting the EFS or profiler to
assign a waste profile.
2. Waste Profile Determination
2.1 A Waste Profile contains the physical and chemical characteristics and is used as a waste
pre-acceptance condition with the Treatment Storage and Disposal Facility (TSDF).
