Collection and Analysis of Ground Water Samples
t
Watersamples les were collected from each purged monitoring well using dedicated disposable bailers
p
after allowing the wells to achieve a minimum 80% recovery of the pre-purge water volume. The
samples were transferred into three 40-milliliter(ml)EPA-approved volatile organic analysis(VOA)
e preservative;water
vials containing 0.5 m118%hydrochloric
' ed in
release area west of the formesamples
UST release twere
wells located at the possible surface contaminant re
also transferred into a 1-liter amber container without preservative. Care was taken to ensure that
visible air bubbles were not present in the VOA vials after filling and capping. After collection, the
samples were properly labeled, placed in a chilled container and transported under chain of custody
1 to a DHS-certified analytical laboratory, for analysis. The samples were analyzed for:
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-g) in accordance with EPA
' Method 8015 Modified;
• Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and total xylenes(BTEX)in accordance with EPA Method
lie 8020; and
• The fuel additives di-isopropyl ether (DIPE), ethyl tertiary-butyl ether (ETBE), methyl
' tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE), tertiary-amyl methyl ether (TAME), tertiary butanol (TBA),
1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-DCA) and ethylene dibromide (EDB) in accordance with EPA
Method 8260 Modified.
3.0. FINDINGS
The soil stratigraphy and depth to ground water were determined from field data; the contaminant
impact of 1,2-DCA and petroleum hydrocarbons to soil and ground water was assessed from the
' analytical laboratory data.
3.1. STRATIGRAPHY
Based on soil descriptions from coring of soil boring MW37,the following section was developed
to the general sedimentary-lithology beneath the site.
' The subsurface from site grade to approximately 25 feet bsg was silty sand or silt. Beginning at 25
feet bsg a significant sand/gravel unit was observed, until a depth of 30 feet. Clay and silt was
•
' Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
1
