The XIGATAI Concept and Operation Manual
'I-Ix-FLOW
Start-up Procedure
To prevent dehydration and growth of bacteria, the membrane elements are saturated with a
water/glycerine/sodium bisulfite solution (79:20:1 [wUwt/wt%]). This solution should be flushed out before use,
according the following flush procedure:
• Connect clean water(preferably drinking water quality or better)to feed.
• Open feed and concentrate valves, and flush during 5 minutes without permeate flow.
• Reduce feed flow and open permeate valve. Start filtration and adjust permeate flow to 50 I/m2h. Let the system
filtrate for 15 minutes.
• Perform a backwash for 30 seconds. Adjust the backwash flow to 50 I/mzh.
• Start filtration , adjust permeate flow to 80 I/mzh. and let the system filtrate for 15 minutes.
• Perform a backwash for 30 seconds. Adjust the backwash flow to 80 I/mzh.
• Start filtration, adjust permeate flow to 100 I/mzh. and let the system filtrate for 15 minutes.
• Perform a backwash for 30 seconds. Adjust the backwash flow to 100 I/m2h.
• Start filtration and adjust permeate flow to 100 I/m2h. let the system filtrate for 15 minutes.
• Perform a backwash for 30 seconds. Adjust the backwash flow to 200 I/mzh.
• Start filtration, adjust permeate flow to 100 I/mzh. Let the system filtrate for 15 minutes.
• Perform a chemical enhanced backwash (CEB) with 100 ppm active chlorine (NaOCI).
30 seconds backwash with a flux of 200 I/mzh
30 seconds backwash with a flux of 125 I/mzh plus NaOCI dosing
5 minutes soaking
30 seconds backwash with a flux of 200 I/mzh
• Start filtration, adjust permeate flow to design flux. Let the system filtrate for 15 minutes.
• Perform a Backwash for 30 seconds. Adjust the backwash flow to design flux.
Note: Always keep TMP during filtration <0.5 bar. In total a volume of 150 I. of clean water per mZ
membrane area is needed to perform this flush procedure.
The system is now ready for use
CAPF-XIGA-0143
