the above described level. Therefore, a total of 3.5' from original ground to bottom of hole was
tested. Test hole #2 was excavated to a level of 1.83' below original ground. From there, an 8"
diameter hole was excavated to 1.67' below the above described level. Therefore, a total of 3.5'
from original ground to bottom of hole was tested. Both test holes were backfilled with 2 inches
of"pea gravel." This method was approved by San Joaquin County Environmental Health
Official prior to the test.
5.3 Description of soil lithology as noted from test pit by appropriate professional using
industry standard protocol: The soil in this area is classified as Pardee Cobbly Loam, Pentz
Sandy Loam, Pentz-Bellota Complex and Peters Clay as stated in the Soil Survey of San Joaquin (16,39
County, California as provided by the United States Department of Agriculture, Soil
Conservation Service.
5.4 Discussion of soil lithology as related to future onsite septic uses: The Pardee Cobbly
Loam has a moderately slow permeability, the Pentz Sandy Loam and Pentz-Bellota Complex
has a moderately rapid permeability and the Peters Clay has a slow permeability thus;
percolation rates were 19 and 31 min./in. (See Appendix.)
6.0 PERCOLATION TEST INFORMATION SECTION
6.1 Site Map Showing the location, with concise and accurate dimensions of the \
percolation test holes on the parcel: See Appendix.
6.2 The Minimum Number of Shallow and Deep Percolation Tests was Performed for
Each Parcel: Two shallow percolation test holes were prepared, one on each proposed parcel.
6.3 Description of the Date, Time and Protocol Used to Prepare the Test Hole,Including
Depth and Dimensions of Hole, Preparation of Hole, and Depth of Water Used to Presoak
(Minimum 12 Inches): Two shallow test holes were excavated as stated in Section 5.2. The
shallow test holes were prepared by Bill Carlson, the owner, on December 7, 2008. On
December 9, 2008 at 7:30 a.m. the 24-hour presoak period was started. The holes were filled
with 12 inches of water over the gravel at this time.
6.4 Description of the Date, Time and Condition of the Test Hole After the 24-Hour Soak
Period (Hole Still Intact, Hole Dry, Depth to Water Remaining in Hole, Etc.): On Q
December 10, 2008 at 7:30 a.m. the two shallow test holes were dry. Six inches of water was
added to the holes and the holes were deemed suitable to continue. The shallow tests passed the
minimum County requirements.
6.5 The Test Conformed to San Joaquin County Policy EHD 02-02 (Correct Depth,
diameter,2" gravel, 6" Water Refill, Correct Readings Recorded): The percolation tests
conformed to San Joaquin County Policy EHD 02-02.
6.6 Complete Percolation Test Form (Including Readings) Was Provided With REHS
Verification Signature. The Rate Was Correctly Calculated Using the Last Reading:
See Appendix for Test Result Form.
3
604131\Soil Suitability Study 1208
