Ct=NTRAL VALLL REGIONAL WATER QUALITY C( ROL L'OARD
INSPECTION REPORT I
16 November 1984
DISCHARGER : TUR14ER WINERY
LOCATION & COUNTY : Woodbridge , San Joaquin County
CONTACTS ) : John Turner , Owner
INSPECTION DATE : 13 November 1984
INSPECTED BY : Gary Reents
ACCOMPANIED BY :
OBSERVATIONS AND COMMENTS
D"ue - to complaints from local residents regarding odors , and due
to a lack of response by local county officials to these com-
plaints-, I inspected the above facility to determine compliance
with Waste Discharge Requirements Order No. 80-055 .
Turner winery , located approximately one half mile north of the
Mokelumne River across from the City of Lodi , produces wine by
fermentation and alcohol from distillation . wastewater is
produced from cooling water , site runoff , floor and tank wash-
ings , and distillation condensate . Waste cooling water is
discharged directly to the Mokelumne River under NPDES Permit No.
CA00'78069 . All other wastewater is conveyed to a sump approx-
imately five feet by five feet by six feet deep, which overflows
to a ditch which feeds a series of five ponds .
The ponds are arranged on a north-south line with the feeder
ditch along the east side. Open pipes allow water to flow from
the ditch to each of the ponds . The ponds are of increasing
size, varying from approximately 10 , 000 square feet to 40 , 000
square feet with a constant depth of approximately three feet.
tdater is pumped from the ponds when they become full and applied
to open land on the site . Solids are periodically removed or
disced into the pond bottoms . The first four ponds receive
process wastewater and are essentially operated in parallel , the
fifth being utilized primarily for runoff .
