CENTRAL VAI :Y REGIONAL WATER QUALITY 7NTROL BOARD
f
INSPECTION REPORT
16 November 1984
DISCHARGER : TURNER WINERY
LOCATION & COUNTY: Woodbridge, San Joaquin County
CONTACT( S ) : John Turner, Owner
INSPECTION DATE : 13 November 1984
INSPECTED BY : Gary Reents
ACCOMPANIED BY :
OBSERVATIONS AND COMMENTS
gue - ty- complaints from local residents regarding odors, and due
to a 'lack of response by local county officials to these com-
plaints; I inspected the above facility to determine compliance
with Waste Discharge Requirements Order No. 80-055.
Turner Winery , located approximately one half mile north of the
MoRelumne River across from the City of Lodi, produces wine by
fermentation and alcohol from distillation . Wastewater is
-produced from cooling water , site runoff, floor and tank wash-
i:ngs ; and distillation condensate . Waste cooling water is
-discharged directly to the Mokelumne River under NPDES Permit No.
CA00'78'069 . All other wastewater is conveyed to a sump approx-
'imately five feet by five feet by six feet deeps which overflows
to a ditch which feeds a series of five ponds.
The ponds are arranged on a north-south line with the feeder
dit'ch,' aIbng the east side. Open pipes allow water to flow from
the ditch to each of the ponds . The ponds are of increasing
size; varying from approximately 10 , 000 square feet to 40, 000
square 'feet with a constant depth of approximately three feet.
water is pumped from the ponds when they become full and applied
to open land on the site . Solids are periodically removed or
di'sced into the pond bottoms . The first four ponds receive
process wastewater and are essentially operated in parallel , the
fifth being utilized primarily for runoff.
REVIEWED BY:
