PROPOSED SOIL INVESTIGATION - RAGU FOODS UNDERGROUND STORAGE TANKS
STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA
,J W
MAR 10. 1987
5ummary ENVIROM ENTAL HEALTH
PERMIT/SERVICESI,.,,
In May 1986. 3 underground storage tanks were removed at the Ragu Foods plant in
Stockton, California. Diesel residue was found in soil at concentrations of
12,000 to 58,000 ppm and aromatic hydrocarbons were found in the 0.003 to 100
ppm range. Further investigation of hydrocarbons residues will be performed by
the Installation of 3 additional soil borings to a depth of 30 ft. Soil samples
will be collected For laboratory analysis. The soil investigation will be
performed in a manner to prevent the inadvertent contamination of ground-dater.
Previous Work
i
On May 26, 1986, 3 underground storage tanks were removed at the Ragu Foods
plant, 1400 Waterloo Road, Stockton, California. This work was performed by
American Environmental Management Corporation. The tanks were a 1000 gallon
capacity gasoline tank and two X50 gallon capacity tanks used for diesel and
solvent storage. Soil samples collected under the excavated tanks at a depth of
ten feet contained 40,000 to 58,000 ppm of diesel residue and From 0.003 to 100
ppm of aromatic hydrocarbons. Chlorobenzenes and xylenes were the major
constituents of the aromatic fraction. Soil samples collected at depths of 12
and 14 feet contained 12,000 and 26,000 ppm of diesel residues.
