at 2.5 Ft. depth increments to a depth of 30 feet. Soil borings R-2 and il-3
will be constructed at a distance of 10 feet from the northwest and northeast
corner of the excavation. Soil sample; will be collected at 5 ft. depth
increments from the surface to a depth of 30 feet. The soil borings will be
made with a hollow stem auger drilling rig. Samples will be collected in a
split spoon style sampler using brass liners. The increased sampling frequency
of 2.5 ft. proposed in boring R-1 will provide greater definition of the volume
of soil to be remediated or excavated, should these actions be necessary.
Groundwater levels in the area are believed to be at about 40 feet below the
surface. The San ,Joaquin Local Health District has reported finding groundwater
at a depth of 40 feet at a site near the plant. Water levels in plant water
supply wells are 39 and 45 feet below the subsurface. Figure 2 shows the
relationship between the excavated area, proposed soil boring and the water .
table.
The soil investigation will be performed under the supervision of a California
registered geologist.
Sampling and Analytical Pro ram
The soil samples from each depth will be collected by the use of hollow stem
auger and split spoon sampler. Brass liners will be used in the sampler to hold
the soil samples. The brass liners will be cleaned of any machine oil residues
by washing with a non-phosphate detergent solution, deionfzed water rinse,
followed by.a solvent (methanol or methylene chloride) rinse if necessary. The
cleaned liners will be kept In a closed container until the time of use. The
-a-
