L:8
tria
a
After the wells were purged, the pump was pulled from the well.
With the pump out of the well, groundwater samples were collected
by lowering a teflon bailer into the well. The bailer was
lowered into each well using new, clean monofillament line. This
line was not reused between wells. Water collected in the bailer
was poured directly from the bailer into two cleaned, kilned 40
milliliter (ml) , amber glass; vials preserved with 2 ml of 1:1
dilute hydrochloric acid and capped with teflon lined septa. The
bailer was decontaminated between wells using the same techniques
as described for the split.-spoon analytical sampling. The pump
was thoroughly cleaned prior to use with a high pressure potable
water spray rinse, and was cleaned in the same fashion after each
_. well had been purged.
In addition to the these water samples, one duplicate water
sample (collected at MW-2 and identified as sample number• MW-3.02)
"- and one water rinsate blank (collected after the last well had
been sampled and labeled NW-203) were collected for quality
assurance purposes. No distinction was made to the laboratory
between these quality assurance samples and the monitor well
groundwater samples. The duplicate sample was a split sample
removed from the same bailer of water as the primary sample.
n This procedure served as a check on consistency of laboratory
methods. The rinsate blank was collected after the bailer had
been routinely decontaminated. Distilled water was poured into
the top of the bailer and the sample collected using the same
procedures as employed for the samples obtained from the monitor
wells. This procedure served as a check on the effectiveness of
the field decontamination procedures.
All water samples were labeled in the field with an indelible ink
d- pen as they were collected. For each sample, the date and time
of ,ample collection, the sampler's initials, the project name
and the designated analyses were recorded on the label and on the
sampling log sheet. Water samples were identified using the
monitor well name. Once labeled, the samples were inserted into
ziplock baggies and placed on ice in an insulated cooler. All
samples were delivered to the laboratory the same day as sampled.
All water samples were transported under chain--of-custody to
WESTON Analytics' Stockton, CA. laboratory and submitted for
chemical analysis by EPA Method 602 (aromatic volatile organics)
and total petroleum hydrocarbons per Method 8015 modified for
diesel. (All chain--of-custodies are presented in Appendix F.)
The development water sample, field duplicate sample and the
field rinsate blank were submitted for the same analytic suite.
It should be noted the laboratory exceeded the method prescribed
--------- -._--------- -----hording_times-by 4-:days--'for Mater-samples collected ori August`19;
-- C - 6
