16 2.0 Quarterly Activities
Prior to groundwater sampling on November 1, 1995, the groundwater depth in each
' accessible monitoring well was measured using a SolinsC water level meter These data
were used to generate a potentiometric surface map for the site (Figure 2) Monitoring well
MW-1 was dry, and MW-2 was inaccessible due to the presence of a large volume of packing
crates on and around the well
' Approximately three well volumes of groundwater were purged from each sampleable well
using a decontaminated bailer Groundwater parameters including pH, electrical conductivity
and temperature were monitored during purging After purging the wells, groundwater
samples were collected in appropriate sampling containers One quality control sample
' (equipment nnsate) was also collected Each sample was labeled, sealed and packed in an
ice-box cooler that was maintained at a temperature of approximately 4°C using water-ice
The sample coolers were delivered to McCampbell Analytical Inc (DHS Certification No
' 1644), located in Pacheco, California, for sample analysis Groundwater sampling
information forms containing the data collected are presented in Appendix A
The groundwater samples were analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) as gasoline,
TPH as diesel, and benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTEX) Analysis Request
and Chain-of-Custody (ARCO) records accompanied the samples at all times (Appendix B)
The following methods were used for sample analysis
• TPH as gasoline and TPH as diesel - modified EPA method 8015
• BTEX - EPA method 8020
The laboratory report, which includes the results for all the samples that were analyzed, is
presented in Appendix C Method detection limits followed those defined to the Leaking
' Underground Fuel Tank Manual, dated March 1989, and the Regional Water Quality
Control Board's Tri Regional Board Staff Recommendations for Preliminary Evaluation
and Investigation of Underground Tank Sites, dated August 1990
MZ/04-30-96/V DB F/95-0045 If 2-1
