16
1.0 Introduction
IT Corporation (TT) was retained by Van den Bergh Foods Company to perform soil boring
' and sampling activities at the petroleum hydrocarbon impacted site at their facility, located at
1400 Waterloo Road in Stockton, California (Figure 1) This work was performed as part of
' the Corrective Action Requirements which have been requested by San Joaquin County Public
Health Services - Environmental Health Division (County)
1.1 Facility Background
9
' The facility has been used for commercial food processing for over 30 years, and is located
on the flat terrain of California's Central Valley The soils underlying the facility consist
largely of silts and clays with interbeds of sands, varying in thickness from 5 feet to over 20
' feet. In November 1995, groundwater at the site was encountered at an approximate depth of
63.5 feet. The site groundwater has historically been observed to flow in different directions
' at a low gradient (0.001 to 0 002 ft/ft).
' 1.2 Site History
On May 26, 1984, a 1000-gallon gasoline tank, a 550-gallon Stoddard (petroleum) solvent
tank, and a 550-gallon diesel tank were removed from a common excavation by American
Environmental Management Corporation Analytical results of native soil samples collected
from the bottom of the tank pit yielded concentrations of total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH)
as diesel and chlorinated organic compounds. The tank excavation was subsequently
backfilled.
Subsequent investigative and corrective actions unpiemented at the site have included
' • Drilling of three soil borings to 30 feet (R-1, R-2, and R-3) by Stauffer in 1987
' • Installation of three monitoring wells (MW-1 to 63 feet, MW-2 to 64.5 feet, and
MW-3 to 65 feet) by Roy F. Weston, Inc in October 1988.
' • Dn ing of one soil boring (B-1 to 81.5 feet) and one monitoring well (MW-4 to
95 feet) by a Remediation Services, Inc. (RSI) subsidiary, BSK & Associates
(BSK), in October 1992.
• Drilling of four soil borings (B-101 to 75 feet, B-102 to 75 feet, B-103 to 75.5
feet, and B-104 to 75 feet) by BSK in February 1993
MZ/11-20-95NDBF/95-0037 1
i
