of 019 mg/Kg and 0 47 mg/Kg Total xylenes were detected in six samples with
concentrations ranging between 0.33 mg/Kg and 3.8 mg/Kg.
It should be noted that the surrogate percent recovery of tnfluorotoluene measured during
analysis of sample TR-050195-04 was anomalously high (167%) and was anomalously low
during analysis of sample TP-050295-06 (64%). These recoveries may affect the quantitative
results; however, the qualitative results are not likely to be affected.
Based on the landfill sampling requirements, a total of four 4-point composite samples were
collected and analyzed for the target compounds. Figure 3 illustrates the sampling locations
and Table 2 presents a summary of the analytical results for the soil samples. No TPH as
gasoline or benzene were detected in any of the four composited samples collected. TPH as
diesel was detected in all the samples collected, in concentrations ranging between 1500
mg/Kg and 5300 mg/Kg Toluene was detected to three samples, with concentrations ranging
between 0.28 mg/Kg and 0.43 mg/Kg; ethyl benzene was detected in three samples, with
concentrations ranging between 0 28 mg/Kg and 0.52 mg/Kg. Total xylenes were detected in
all four samples with concentrations ranging between 0.66 mg/Kg and 0.93 mg/Kg Total
lead was detected in two samples, both with concentrations of 3.1 mg/Kg.
The laboratory analytical reports are presented in Appendix C
4.0 Summary and Conclusion
The field activities implemented during this corrective action resulted in the excavation and
disposal of approximately 330 cubic yards of petroleum impacted soil from the vicinity of the
previously removed USTs at the Van Den Bergh Foods Company in Stockton, California
The native soil in the vicinity of the previously removed tanks appears to be impacted
primarily with TPH as diesel to at least a depth of 20 feet below grade. Associated aromatic
hydrocarbons (toluene, ethyl benzene and total xylenes) are also present in soil at very low
concentrations
Verification soil samples collected from the sidewalls and floor of the excavation yielded
concentrations of TPH as diesel. Concentrations of toluene, ethyl benzene and total xylenes
were detected from laboratory analysis of soil samples; however, the detected concentrations
MZJO&23/95/VD13F195-0OW 7
