• Periodically verify the integrity of all protective clothing, and <br /> • Notify the Project FC if emergency help is needed <br /> 1 Entry to or exit from the EZ under the conditions described earlier without a designated <br /> partner is prohibited <br /> 4.2 Project Specific Practices <br /> 4.2.1 Chemical Hazards <br /> During on-site activities, all personnel will wear appropriate protective clothing whenever the <br /> possibility for contact with acidic preservatives, potentially harmful decontamination agents or <br /> contaminated soil or groundwater exists If respiratory protection is required, only NIOSH <br /> approved respirators may be worn Disposable respirators are not permitted <br />' All personnel working in areas where there is a potential for exposure to hazardous <br /> substances shall be unformed of the hazards of those substances, the warning signs and <br /> symptoms of exposure, and the proper work procedures to be followed Approprnate personal <br /> protective equipment shall be used to protect workers against potential exposure to hazardous <br /> substances whenever engineering controls, such as ventilation, may not be feasible or <br /> effective Absolutely no chewing, eating, drinking, smoking or application of cosmetics shall <br /> be permitted in any work area designated as an exclusion zone or where a reasonable <br /> potential for exposure to contaminants exists When adding samples to preservative or when <br /> using methanol or hexane, personnel shall observe the following precautions. <br />' • Stand upwind of the open container <br /> • Do not hold the container at eye level when opening, pouring or adding the <br /> sample <br /> • Keep the container tightly closed whenever it is not in immediate use <br /> • Keep away from all sources of ignition <br /> During excavation activities and whenever high levels of dust may be generated, spraying the <br /> area with water or superannuates may be utilized as a control measure Dry brooms ng and <br /> MZJ11-29_94/RHS/4ASP/94-0037JAF 4_2 <br />
