Analytic Results
Compound Soil Sample S1 Ground Water Sample W
THC 450 ppm 28 ppm
Benzene 2.4 ppm 1.6 ppm
Toluene 4.0 ppm 2.6 ppm
Xylenes 14 ppm 3.1 ppm
PCBs <4.0 ppm 0.0004 ppm
EDB <0.01 ppm <0.5 ppm
TCE Not analyzed 0.094 ppm
The action levels for the tested compounds are:
Benzene 0.0007 ppm
Toluene 0.1 ppm
Xylenes 0.62 ppm
PCBs 50 ppm soil (TTLC) , 5 ppm water (STLC)
EDB 0.00005 ppm
TCE 0.005 ppm
BTX, EDB and TCE concentrations in the waste oil tank excavation exceed
these action levels. Based on these concentrations the regulatory agencies
may require further investigation to better define the extent and degree of
contamination and assess appropriate remedial actions. If additional work is
required WA believes the following work would achieve these goals:
o Remove the two additional underground tanks on site;
o Sample the soil and ground water in these excavations;
o Analyze the samples for THCs, BTX, EDB, PCBs;
o Report analytic results to regulatory agencies and
o Address further investigations on a site-wide basis instead of a
tank-specific basis.
