The Report discusses the soil and groundwater sampling results from
nine Geoprobe borings and three hand-augered borings around aboveground storage tanks (AST)
#3301 and#3302 which contain gasoline and AST#1503 which contains diesel fuel. Boring
ST/HA-2 shows an increase in gasoline constituents in soil with depth. Each of the 12 grab
groundwater samples show pollution above applicable water quality objectives. The Report states
that the lateral limits of pollution were not defined for each of the tanks and proposes to initiate
interim remediation to recover separate phase hydrocarbons (SPH) observed around AST#3302.
Regional Board staff concurs with initiating remedial action to remove SPH, but this should
occur concurrently with delineation activities. However, Regional Board staff does not agree that
the vertical extent of groundwater pollution is defined. By 20 December 2002, please submit a
work plan to install monitoring wells to delineate the lateral and vertical extent of groundwater
pollution and an interim measure to recover SPH.
