The Site consists of a petroleum pipeline
manifold area and is surrounded by bulk fuel terminals.
The Report summarizes the fourth quarter 2012 groundwater monitoring event. Depth to
groundwater ranged from 5 feet below ground surface (bgs) to 7 feet bgs and flow was
generally toward the northeast. The maximum concentrations of total petroleum hydrocarbons
as gasoline (TPHg), TPH as diesel (TPHd), benzene, methyl tert butyl ether (MTBE), and tert
butyl alcohol (TBA) were 35,000 micrograms per liter (pg/L), 6,900 pg/L, 15,000 pg/L, 430 pg/L,
and 72,000 pg/,L, respectively.
The Report also includes a comparison of groundwater analytical data obtained by both
conventional purge and sample methods and passive sampling with a HydraSleeve sampler.
KMEP concluded that the two methods were comparable, however the HydraSleeve results
may result in slightly lower concentrations. These results are consistent with historical results.
KMEP states that the conventional purge method will be biased toward groundwater residing in
more permeable intervals surrounding the wells, while the HydraSleeve sampling will tend to be
more representative of groundwater flowing through the sampled well.
KAR- L.
