Ms. Vicki Goodenow - 2 - 8 August 2009
NuStar Terminals Stockton Faci
toluene at 14,000 pg/L, and MTBE at 230,000 pg/L. PS/MW-14 and PS/P-12 contained the
maximum concentrations of TPHd, ethyl benzene and total xylenes. Due to a history of non-
detects, and in accordance with MRP No. R5-2007-0818, sampling for tertiary amyl methyl
ether, di-isopropyl ether, ethyl tertiary butyl ether, ethanol, and methanol will be discontinued
in PS/P-13, PS/MW-14, ACA-1A, ACA-2A, ACA-113, ACA-213, and OW-8C.
The 17 June 2009 Subsurface Investigation Work Plan (Work Plan) proposed to install
groundwater monitoring wells, conduct lower zone (about 90 feet below ground surface [bgs])
grab groundwater sampling at two locations, and conduct a comparative laboratory analysis
for TPHd using three variations of Method 8015 B that will include no filtration, filtration by
glass beads, and silica gel cleanup. The results of the deep grab groundwater sampling will be
used to develop a strategy for proceeding with well installation in the 90-foot bgs water bearing
zone.
Central Valley Water Board staff concurred with the Work Plan in our 8 July 2009 letter and
requested submission of a report of the investigation with recommended locations for the
90-foot bgs wells by 30 October 2009.
If you have any questions regarding this letter, you may contact me at (916) 464-4811 or
betaylor(aD_waterboards.ca.gov.
BRIAN TAYLOR, P.G.
Engineering Geologist
cc.
