Health District approved Chevron's
Underground Storage Tank Permanent Closure Plan for the abandonment of two (2)
underground gasoline tanks and one (1) underground diesel tank. These underground tanks
were formerly Carnation's old fuel loading f facility which was located on Chevron
property, Section 2, T1 N/R6E, and leased to Carnation.
Preliminary Site Assessment
. C.
On January 22, 1987, at the direction of Ms. Lagorio (San Joaquin Health District),.
Canonie Engineering Inc. (a consulting firm retained by Chevron U.S.A. Inc.) obtained soil
samples 4' beneath each subject tank at fill end. All sample containers were then capped,.
marked for ID, chain-of-custody forms completed, and transported to the consultant's
laboratory for required analyses.
Site Characterization and Mitigation
Review of ground water maps of the Stockton area indicates depth to ground water in the ry
vicinity of the Carnation Plant to be about 451 feet (see attached map). Since levels of _.
contamination are very low in near-surface soils (Canonie Lab Report, attached), it's
likely any downward movements of contaminants would be attenuated to non-detectable
levels and would not pose a threat to ground water quality.
it
In view of these results, there is no demonstrable need for additional work. 4'
f
If you have any questions or would like to discuss this matter further, please contact
Mr. Richard Szczucki at (805) 395-6304.
Sincere! 414;
R.
