i
1.0 INTRODUCTION
WaterWork Corp has been contracted by Chevron U.S.A. Inc. to
prepare a site characterization workplan for the Carnation Company
lease portion of their facility located at 540 North Aurora Way in
Stockton, California (Figure 1) . This work is required by San
Joaquin County public Health Services in correspondence dated
- October 10, 1990.
_ 2.0 SITE BACKGROUND
The site is located on the northeast corner of Fremont and Oak
r streets in Stockton, California. The site is currently owned by
Chevron U.S.A. Inc. The southeastern portion of the site is leased
to the Carnation Company which has operated a distributorship for
Carnation diary food products for over 35 years. The facility
contained three underground product storage tanks which were used
by the Carnation Company to provide fuel for six vehicles. Two
3,500 gallon tanks containing leaded and diesel fuels and one 4,000
gallon tank containing leaded fuel were located in the northeast
corner of the Carnation facility (Figure 2) . No other maintenance
activities were conducted onsite.
• 3.0 PREVIOUS INVESTIGATIONS
In 1987, three underground g product storage tanks and all ancillary
piping was removed from the site. Soil samples from beneath the
i
fill end of each tank were collected and analyzed by Canonie
Environmental (Figure Z) . Selected samples were analyzed for
benzene, toluene, xylenes (BTX), total extractable hydrocarbons,
" ethylene dibromide, and total lead. Based on the results of the
, < analyses, the site was approved "closed" without further remedial
activities. Due to a recent change in regulatory requirements for
lead, the soils beneath two of the tanks exceeded current
regulatory levels of 13 mg/kg.
r
In December 1989, WaterWork Corp. drilled and sampled 5 soil
borings to determine the extent of lead impaction in the vicinity
Chevron U a s Inc - 397 x r
F!d R033791 TLP
1
