(PHS/EHD) has reviewed Second quarter 1999 groundwater monitoring report dated
September 2, 1999 prepared by Wm. J. Hunter & Associates. Analytical results of the
groundwater sample of Monitoring well #1 (MW-1) were 3,700 parts per billion (ppb)
(reported as 3.7 parts per million in the quarterly report) of Total Petroleum
Hydrocarbon as gasoline (TPH-g), and 230 ppb of Benzene, 11 ppb of Toluene, 100
ppb of Ethyl-Benzene, and 190 ppb of Xylenes (BTEX collectively). Results of MW-2
were 200 ppb of TPH-g, and 1.3, 8.2, 2.4, and 6.1 ppb of BTEX, respectively.
Historically, results of all monitor well groundwater samples were not-detect (ND) at
<5.0 ppb methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE), Di-isopropyl ether, Ethyl tert-butyl ether,
and t-Amyl Methyl ether using EPA Method 8260 (October 1997 and April 1998) and
EPA 8015/8020. Depth to groundwater (DTW) has been consistent with fluctuation
of less than 0.3 feet in the last two quarters (February to July 1999), and the water level
has been within the screen section of the MWs. The gradient direction of groundwater
flow has been consistently north/north-eastward since 1995.
Three Geoprobe® (GP) borings were advanced and soil/groundwater samples were
collected and analyzed at the site on August 25, 1998. The analytical findings were
reported in Interim Report Covering Results of Site Investigation dated September 1998
prepared by Wm. J. Hunger & Associates. GP-1, GP-2, and GP-3, were advanced to 25
feet below surface grade (bsg), 26 feet bsg, and 23 feet bsg, respectively. Analytical
results of the soil sample taken from GP-3 at 17 feet bsg were 217 ppb, 2,360 ppb, 1140
ppb, 3840 ppb of BTEX, respectively, and 558 ppm of TPH-g. Analytical results of the
soil samples of all 3 borings taken at 23 feet bsg were ND at <3 ppb of BTEX and
<1ppm of TPH-g. Analytical results of the grab groundwater sample collected from
GP3 were 0.3 ppb, 0.7 ppb, 0.6 ppb and 0.8 ppb of BTEX, respectively, and 37 ppb of
MTBE (but was not confirmed with EPA 8260). Results of the grab water sample
from GP-2 were 1.0 ppb, 4.0 ppb, 3.0 ppb, and 5.0 ppb of BTEX, respectively, and 437
