Fremont Street
Stockton, California
Project No. 989.2
December 17, 2003
1.0 INTRODUCTION
Valley Wholesale Drug Company, Inc. (VWDC) is located at 1401 W. Fremont Street,
' Stockton, California. The property is located in the southwestern part of the City of
Stockton, almost directly beneath I-5. The Stockton Deepwater Channel is approximately
one block to the south, near the terminus of Mormon Slough.
Two (2) 1,000-gallon USTs were installed at the site in June of 1974. The tanks were used to
fuel both company and personal vehicles for business purposes.
' On June 8, 1994, Thorpe Oil Company removed two (2) 1,000-gallon USTs along with a fuel
dispenser and associated piping, which had been used for storing and dispensing unleaded
' gasoline. There was a strong petroleum odor noted during the excavation and removal of the
tanks as well as soil discoloration.
In October of 1994, approximately 128 cubic yards of contaminated soil was removed from
the site and disposed of at a licensed landfill. Soil samples were taken and the hole was filled
! with clean material, and capped with asphalt. Details of the work are discussed in William J.
Hunter & Associates, (Hunter et al.) report: Interim Report Covering Results of Soil
Contamination Investigation Valley Wholesale Drugs—January 3, 1995.
i
4
I
