WORK PLAN
FOR
INSTALLATION OF ONE
GROUNDWATER MONITORING WELL,
ARCO FACILITY 5450, STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA
This work plan has been prepared in accordance with Work Authorization Number 20101-00 by
Brown and Caldwell on behalf of ARCO Products Company (ARCO) for ARCO Facility 5450. ARCO
Facility 5450 is located at 1617 East Fremont Street, Stockton, California (Figure 1). The work plan will
be submitted to ARCO and the San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health
Division, (County). The County Site Code for this site is 505663. Before commencing work, all
necessary permits will be acquired and approval of the work plan will be obtained from the County.
The proposed work is the installation of one groundwater monitoring well (MW-1) near the
western end edge of the southwest pump island (product dispenser 1 and 2). Figure 2 presents the
proposed location of monitoring well MW-1. The purpose of installing a well in this location is to
determine if groundwater has been impacted by hydrocarbons in the area where hydrocarbon impacted soil
was removed during the fiber-trench replacement in 1995. This investigation was requested by the
County in a letter dated May 6, 1996. A copy of the May 6, 1996 County letter is included with this work
plan as Appendix A.
The Site Safety and Health Plan (SSHP) prepared from a master SSHP for California-based
ARCO facilities with site specific information, dated Dec-:mber 20, 1994, will be followed and retained
on-site during the field work. \1.ro eo o1-&2-
This work plan describes the methods to be used in the field during drilling, soil sampling. This
plan proposes a project schedule for work at the site and the timely submittal of a site summary report to
the County after the completion of this work.
SITE BACKGROUND
ARCO Facility 5450 is an operating retail gasoline filling station. In October 1995, ARCO
replaced the single-wall product line and fiber trench system with double-wall fiberglass product
lines. Hydrocarbons were identified in the soil beneath the product dispensers 1 and 2 during the
fiber trench replacement. Approximately 35 cubic yards (in place) of soil were removed from the
affected area and a sample was collected from the base of the excavation (approximately 11 feet
below grade). Minor hydrocarbons were identified in "the soil at the base of the excavation.
Groundwater was not encountered during the excavation.
This report was prepared in accordance with the standards of the environmental consulting industry at the time it was
prepared. It should not be relied upon by parties other than those for whom it was prepared, and then only to the extent of
the scope of work which was authorized. This report does not guarantee that no additional environmental contamination
beyond that described in this report exists at the site.
2417\REP0RTS%WKPL.1.D0C
