EHD has reviewed current site data prepared by URS Corporation (URS) on your behalf
and believes that conditions may warrant site closure. The only contaminant of concern, methyl
tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE), has been reported in groundwater from monitoring well MW-2 at
concentrations at or below 21 micrograms per Iiter(µg/L) since February 2004.
EHD requests that you submit a closure summary report or a report showing why the case should
remain open by December 30, 2005. This report should include required data listed in CVRWQCB
Tri-Regional Board Staff Recommendations. While all items listed in Section 6.6 of the document
should be addressed, EHD is particularly interested in the following to facilitate closure
consideration:
• Cross-sections showing correlated soil lithologies, contaminant concentrations, lateral and
vertical extents of impacted soil and groundwater, and potential or actual contaminant
migration pathways.
• Tables of current and historical analytical soil and groundwater data.
• Calculations showing estimates of the present dissolved and adsorbed contaminant masses of
MTBE.
• A modeled estimate of the future impact to groundwater from adsorbed contaminants, and
• An estimate of the projected maximum plume extent resulting from the modeled additional
impact of groundwater.
If you have any questions regarding this letter please contact Vicki McCartney at (209) 468-3456 or
by electronic mail at vmccartney@sjcehd.eom.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental
Health Department
Victoria L.
