Laboratory Analysis for Soil Samples
Analyses for TPHg and benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes (BTEX compounds) were
performed by EPA Method 801518020. Fuel Oxygenates were analyzed by EPA Method
8260B. Analysis for lead was done using EPA method 6010A.
Groundwater Sampling Procedures
The groundwater samples from SB-1, SB-2, and SB-3 were obtained by using a hydro-punch
sampling device, in which discrete water samples are collected from a specific target depth.
Standard operating procedures include applying o-rings or Teflon tape around the threads of
the rod joints to prevent leakage of non-target zone water. A rubber shield was place over the
hydro-punch tip or O-ring at the tip joint to prevent leakage of non-target zone water. The
hydro-punch was driven 1 to 2 feet into the formation. After confirming with a water level
indicator that no water had entered the hydro-punch rods, the screen was pulled back and
exposed, allowing water to enter. Water was collected within a stainless steel bailer and
containerized within HCL preserved 40 ml VOA's.
Laboratory Procedures for Groundwater Samples
The groundwater samples were analyzed for the presence of total petroleum hydrocarbons
calculated as gasoline and benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes by EPA Method
8015/8020. Fuel oxygenates were analyzed by EPA Method 8260B. These analyses were
performed by utilizing a purge and trap extraction technique, with final detection was by gas
chromatography using flame- and photo-ionization detectors. The methods of analysis for
the groundwater samples are documented in the certified analytical report.
i
