I have
reviewed the file and found that there is not sufficient information to close the site at this time. A
survey of supply wells within a 2000-foot radius of the site is needed. Furthermore, the method for
determining the ground water gradient direction is missing. Because of the location of the site
relative to the Delta, it seems unlikely that the site would have always has ground water flow to the
north. One nearby underground tank site, the former Beacon Station located at 2185 East Fremont
Street, found ground water gradients to be towards the west, southeast, and northwest between May
1992 and March 1993. If your method for determining the gradient is found to be insufficient, 2
more monitoring wells may be required.
When the above concerns have been addressed, we may again consider site closure. I have enclosed
a checklist which may assist you. PIease continue to direct all of your correspondences to EIizabeth
Thayer, Associate Engineer.
If you have any questions, please call me at (916) 255-3119 or Elizabeth Thayer at (916) 255-3125.
VW J4"Weale=
JEFF BRAUNSTEIN
Project Engineer
cc: Diane Hinson, San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department, Stockton
