f
M
3 SCOPE OF WORK
Following is a detailed description of the field procedures utilized during
the recent soil and ground-t°rater characterization. These procedures were
conducted consistent with the approved work plan. The scope of work for
this project included the following tasks:
• drilling one exploratory soil boring
• collecting and analyzing soil samples
• installing a ground-water monitoring well
• developing and sampling the ground-water monitoring well
• submitting selected soil samples and the ground-water
sample for chemical analysis
F
` 3.9 Exploratory Sr.!I Boring
On May 28, 1991, one exploratory soil boring (MW-1) was drilled through
the center of the former excavation at the location shown on Figure 5. The
soil boring was drilled using 8-inch-diameter hollow-stem auger drilling
equipment. Soil samples were collected at 5-foot intervals in advance of
the auger bit with a modified California split-spoon sampler containing
stainless steel liners. These samples were collected for geologic interpre-
tation and chemical analysis. Representative soil samples from each sam-
piing interval were sealed in stainless steel liners with Teflon tape and
plastic end caps, placed in ziploc bags, and stored on ice pending selec-
tion for chemical analysis. Exploratory boring and well installation proce-
du,-es are presented in Appendix A, and the exploratory boring logs are
presented in Appendix B.
The sampling equipment was cleaned between sampling events. The
1 cleaning involved washing with a trisodium phosphate solution, followed
by tinsi'ag with tap wator.
—; Soil sampiez wer, screened in the field by performing visual, olfactory,
_l and head-spa,:e analysis using a portable photoionization detector (PIC}).
The vadose zone soil samples with the highest PID indication of contami-
P1g1g051g050101d 3 Rev.0 July 2,1991
Emcon Assoc ote5
