These Procedures were
conducted consistent with the approved work plan. The scope of work for
this project included the following tasks:
• drilling one exploratory soil boring
• collecting and analyzing soil samples
• installing a ground-water monitoring well
' developing and sampling the ground-water monitoring well
• submitting selected soil samples and the ground-water
sample for chemical analysis
MI 3.1 Exploratory Sol
l Boring
On May 28, 1991, one exp;ora!o
ry soil boring the center of the former excavation at the location shown on drilled
i led through
gu a 5. The
soil boring was drilled using 8-Inch-diameter hollow-stem auger drilling
k equipment. Soil samples were collected at 5-foot intervals ire advance of
the auger bit with a modified California split-spoon sampler containing
stainless steel liners. These samples were collected for geologic interpre-
tation and chamical analysis. Representative soil samples from aarh sam-
pling interval were sealed in stainless steel liners with Teflon® taps and
plastic end caps, placed in zipoc bags, and stored on ice pending selec-
tion for chemical analysis. Exploratory boring and well installation proce-
` 7 dures are presented in Appendix A, and the exploratory boring logs are
presented in Appendix B.
t The sampling equipment was cleaned between sampling events. The
cleaning involved washing with a trisodium phosphate solution, followed
by rinsing with tap water.
} Soil samples were screened in the field b
y performing visual, olfactory,
and head-space analysis using a portable photoionizaton detector (PID).
The vadose zone soil samples with the highest PID indication of contami-
i`
p19ti905t9a50101d 3 Rev.0 July 2, 9991
Ef lCon Associates
