Site Code: 1117
2085 E . Fremont St.
Stockton CA 95205
San Joaquin County Public Health Services Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD)
has reviewed the Report of Findings dated March 20, 2000 prepared by WHF Inc. for the
above referenced site. Soil and water samples collected at this site evidence
contamination. Further investigation is necessary to define the lateral and vertical extent
of contamination ant to evaluate the groundwater condition at this site .
High concentrations of petroleum contaminants in soil and groundwater were evidenced
in Boring #1 (131 ). The deepest soil sample collected in 131 was 80 feet below surface
grade (bsg) . Contaminant concentrations were 10, 36 and 27 parts per billion (ppb) for
Benzene, Toluene and Xylene (BTX) . The vertical extent of soil conatmination has not
been defined. Further investigation should include advancing borings to a depth
necessary (two consecutive five foot intervals of no detectable contamination), near the
B1 area in order to evaluate the vertical extent of contamination. Soil samples should be
obtained at every five foot interval and at every significant lithological change in the soil.
PHS/EHD recommends the cone penetrometry test boring method to obtain relevant
lithological and hydrological data prior to the placement of additional MWs and to
evaluate contaminant migration potential at this site. A well receptor survey should also
be completed prior to MW placement.
Groundwater samples evidenced contamination as high as 12, 19, and 13 parts per
million (ppm) for BTX and 2 .4 ppm for Ethylbenzene. MTBE concentrations were as
high as . 720 ppm and TPH-g concentrations were 100 ppm in groundwater PHS/EHD
agrees with the recommendations in the above referenced Report to define the vertical
and lateral extent of soil and water contamination at this site. The installation of a
minimum of 3 properly screened Monitoring Wells (MWs) will be necessary to evaluate
groundwater contamination and migration potential.
Conduct a survey of domestic, municipal, agricultural, industrial and any other wells
within a 2,000 foot radius of this site. Contact the Department of Water Resources,
municipal water suppliers and nearby industries for well information. In addition,
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
