" <br /> EWIIZONiYLENT_AL HEALTH DEVISION <br /> Karen Furst, M.D., M.P.H., Health Officerr ` <br /> 304 East Weber Avenue, Third Floor • Stockton, CA 95202 <br /> 209/468-3420 <br /> SEP 2 a W. <br /> To Whom It May Concern <br /> ANALYSIS REQUIRED FOR OXYGENATE COMPOUNDS <br /> San Joaquin County Public Health Seriices, Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD) is under <br /> Local Oversight Program (LOP) contract with the California State Water Resources Control <br /> Board (SWRCS) to provide oversight for the investigation and c!eanup of unauthorized releases <br /> from underground storage tanks. This contract includes a provision for technical supper: by the <br /> California Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board (CVRWQCS). <br /> PHS/EHD has recently received a letter from the CVRWQCS that provides guidance on how to <br /> analyze far the oxygenated compounds in gasoline until a 'definitive protocol" can be <br /> established. Basea an this letter, PHS/EHD is airecting you to analyze samples from all of <br /> your monitoring wells for Tertiary Butyl Alcohol ( BA), Methyl Tertiary Butyl Ether (M T HE), Di- <br /> iscpropyl ether (DIPE), Ethyl Tertiary Butyl Ether (E BE) and Tertiary Amyl Methyl Ether <br /> (TAME) by EPA method 8250. PHS/EriD will require analysis of samples for Methanol and <br /> Ethanol where there is reason to believe that these compounds were stored in the underground <br /> tank(s). <br /> PHS/EHD requires quarterly sampling of ail wells where the presence of oxygenates is <br /> confirmed by EPA method 8260. Mcdincaticn of this required sampling such as number Of wells <br /> sampled, sampling frequency and method of analysis may be granted only after initial sample <br /> results are reviewed by PHS/El-11).
