These sites did not verify the status of the soil at drought
conditions known to be in the late 1970's, and as recently as mid 1980's.
PHS/EHD is requiring soil samples to be collected into the saturated zone that
correspond to seasonal/historical deeper depths to water. In addition, please advise
your consultant that they are to utilize technology that will allow them to collect discreet
groundwater samples at depths within the saturated zone that correspond to the
historical drought depths also. This technology should ensure that any groundwater
from the upper saturated zone will not cross-contaminate the groundwater sample
collected at the deeper area of the saturated zone.
Only sites that have verified the status of the soil and groundwater at historical drought
conditions will be considered to have "vertically" defined their release. A complete work
plan should include this investigative effort.
Please contact Michael Infurna at (209) 468-3454 if you have any questions.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental
Health Division {
Michael J.
