i
CAAIiBRIA
SB-6) to assess the lateral extent of petroleum hydrocarbons in soil near the northern
dispenser island
G Cambria proposes installing one monitoring well (S-4) downgradtent of S-1 to assess the
lateral extent of petroleum hydrocarbons in groundwater
Work Tasks
Permits: An appropriate permit for drilling will be obtained from SJCPHS/EHD
Health and Safety Plan. A site-specific Health and Safety Plan will be prepared for field
work
Utility Clearance Proposed drilling locations will be marked and their locations cleared
through Underground Service Alert (USA) prior to drilling
Site Investigation Three exploratory soil borings (SB-4 through SB-6) are proposed in the
vicinity of the dispenser islands at the locations shown on Figure 2 These borings will be
drilled using a CPT rig Boring SB-4 will be drilled near S-1 and as close to the dispenser
island as possible This boring will be drilled to a minimum depth of 80 fbg to assess the
vertical extent of petroleum hydrocarbons in soil beneath the source area The total depth
of this boring will be determined in the field based on the presence of petroleum hydrocarbons
in soil samples Field evidence such as soil staining, odor, and photo-ionization detector
(PID) measurements will be evaluated to determine if petroleum hydrocarbons are present in
soil samples collected from this boring The boring will be terminated once field evidence
suggests we have drilled through a minimum of 10 feet of non-impacted soil
Soil borings SB-5 and SB-6 will be drilled at the locations shown on Figure 2 to assess the
lateral extent of petroleum hydrocarbons in soil adjacent to the source area These borings
will be drilled to the same maximum depth as boring SB-4
Well S-4 will be drilled with a hollow-stem auger drilling rig at the location shown on Figure 2
The purpose of this well is to assess the lateral extent of petroleum hydrocarbons in
groundwater downgradtent of the source area
A Cambria geologist will be onsite to supervise all drilling activities Soil encountered while
drilling well S-4 will be described using the Unified Soil Classification System and Munsell Soil
Color Charts Soil samples will be collected at five-foot intervals for lithologic description
241-0797 5
