NEW
44 A. Keith Kaufman, M.S.
Consultant in Environmental Biotechnology
Serving Industry,Government,Academia and the Legal Profession
March 11 , 1997
TO: Interested Parties }
FROM: A. Keith Kaufman, M.S.
Subject: Bioconverters, Inc. - Product and Process
I have had the pleasure of working with Bioconverters, Inc. as an independent
biotechnical consultant for the past three years. Although initially highly skeptical as
to the purported efficacy of Bioconverters' product and process for biologically-based
remediation of contaminated soil and groundwater, I have since been party to a
variety of circumstances which have supported their validity.
Without question, the product/process has enabled effective cleanup for a
variety of contaminated sites, both soil and groundwater, and regulatory "closure"
letters are available as substantiation for these accomplishments. Equally important
is the fact that the Bioconverters' product/process achieves these results for
applicable sites with unique characteristics and favorable economy. For example, it
has been shown through extensive laboratory testing that the product (which
contains a large, heterogenous consortium of viable bacteria within an organic matrix)
can exert significant biodegradative activity against a wide variety of frequently
encountered contaminants (such as petroleum hydrocarbons, halogenated
hydrocarbons, and others). Additionally, these effects can be achieved under a rather
wide variety of environmental conditions (variable pH's and temperatures). For ex
situ, as well as in situ treatment, the product/process can be effective without the
addition of supplemental oxygen (e.g. soil aeration and water sparging). Clearly, such
characteristics lend themselves not only to wide treatment applicability, but to
economy of treatment, as well.
Unlike many of the so-called "magic bug" companies (which i initially believed
Bioconverters to be) who make outlandish claims with little or no supportive evidence
for such claims, Bioconverters, Inc. has taken extraordinary measures to not only
validate the effects associated with the product/process, but, to further characterize,
define, and understand its nature and technical properties. Not only have internal
analyses been forthcoming, but the product/process has also been subjected to an
independent evaluation by the State of California Center for the Evaluation of New
Environmental Technologies (CENET) cosponsored by CAL-EPA and the University of
California at Davis. While there are many facets of the product/process yet to be fully
understood, these studies have clearly documented both efficacy and safety for
environmental cleanup applications.
United States Office Asia-Pacitic OMce
6245 Bristol Parkway#249 2nd Floor,#162 Tung-An Street,Ta-An District
Culver City,CA 90230 Taipei,Taiwan R.O.C.
(310)822-9385 (310)577-9364[FAX] 886-2-378-3751 886-2-378-3752[FAX]
