2. CURRENT STATUS OF THE SITE
Former Chevron SS 9-7780 is now an empty, unoccupied lot.
At present because the water level is lower than 35 feet below
mean sea level, all monitoring wells located on the site are dry,
- and scheduled well sampling has not been carried out since
September 1989 ( see Table 1 ) .
As shown in Table 2, concentrations of hydrocarbons in the wells
located near the former tank field decreased between March 1987
and February 1988 to near the detection limit. Those wells have
been dry since then.
Wells located at the corners of the site (EA1-EA4 ) were sampled
quarterly, and the water samples analyzed, until June 1989,
except for well EA2, which had dried up by March 1989. In the
last two sampling series, in March and June 1989, concentrations
of petroleum hydrocarbons were not found in groundwater above the
respective detection limits (see Table 2 ) .
-- The direction of groundwater varies under the site from south-
southwest to northwest. The last available data (June 1989 )
indicated a northwesterly flow direction ( see Figure 2 ) . Insta-
bility of the groundwater flow under the site is a result of
regional flow, seasonal changes, and the influence of nearby
pumping wells.
` The nearest active water supply wells are located from 150 to 250
feet west and east of the site (see Figure 1 ) j they are at the
r- Broadway Hatchery, which is immediately east of former Chevron SS
9-7780, at the Mini Storage office house and at the house of the
Kareem family west of the site (Figure 3 ) .
• c51 /97780/6-90/tx 3
