Site Background Information GREWAL'S MARKET 4100 East Fremont Street, Stockton, California The site currently operates as a retail fueling facility with a mini-market, car wash and automotive repair shop, and has been owned by Balbir S. and Rajinder K. Grewal since approximately1986. It is Advanced GeoEnvironMental, Inc's (AGE's) understanding that an automobile repair and/or retail fueling facility has existed on this property for approximately 44 years (circa 1966). AGE has no knowledge of site history prior to 1966. In July 1.998, one 10,000-gallon gasoline, one 6,000-gallon gasoline and one 6,000-gallon diesel USTs were removed from the site .and replaced with two 12,000-gallon gasoline/diesel USTs. Thereafter, the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department (EHD) notified Balbir Grewal by letter (dated 06 August 11998) that a UST Unauthorized Release (Leak)/Contamination Site Report (UAR) was filed pursant to Section 25295 of the Health and Safety Code. The responsible party listed on the 1998 UAR is Balbir and RK Grewal (i.e Grewal's Market)..Thereafter, a Notice of Responsibility (NOR) was issued by the EHD to the Grewals Market (dated on 24 August 1998) and directed that the area beneath the former USTs be investigated. SITE DESCRIPTION The Grewal's Market is located at the southeast corner of Fremont Street and Oro Avenue (Figure 1). The site is further located within the southeast quarter of Section 30, Township 2 North, Range 7 East, Mount Diablo Base and Meridian (Stockton East Quadrangle, 7.5-Minute USGS Topographic Series, 1968, photo revised 1987),'in a topographically flat area at an elevation between 25 and 30 feet above mean-sea level. The San Joaquin County Tax Assessor's Office lists the site's boundaries as Parcel 46 on 'Ma 330 in Boo p 143 (APN 143-330-46). un d% The site presently consists ofPdo 1.2,000-gallon gasoline/diesel USTs,;one mini-market building, one automobile repair shop building, one carwash building and fuel dispensing islands under a canopied structure(Figure 2). The site is currently connected to the City of Stockton sanitary sewer system, which is located along the easement irr the west section of the property along Oro Avenue. It is AGE's understanding that no septic tank has been utilized on the property since 1966. The surrounding sites are used for residential apartments toward the south, Oro Street and a vacant ,parcel towards the east, a residential mobile home park toward the northwest, commercial warehouse buildings toward the north and northeast, and grocery market toward the east.
