(AGE) for the above-referenced site. The work plan was submitted in response to the EHD letter dated 16 March 2011 directing the submittal of a work proposal that would detail the methods and materials to be used to destroy the monitoring wells at your site. In the work plan, AGE proposes to drill out monitoring wells MW-2 and MW-3, and destroy MW-1 and MW-4 by pressure grouting techniques. The EHD has reviewed the groundwater analytical data from the last recorded sampling event at your site on 12 November 2008. 1,2- Dichloroethane (1,2-DCA) was detected at 22 micrograms per liter (pg/L) in groundwater samples collected from MW-4. Noting that 1,2-DCA has historically been detected in groundwater collected from MW-4, the EHD directs that this well also be destroyed by drilling out the contents (well casing, screen, filter pack, and annular seal). Monitoring well MW-1 is the only well that may be destroyed by leaving the casing in place and pressure grouting. Instead of applying a thick grout mixture under approximately 10-15 pounds per square inch (psi) of pressure, use a thin grout mixture so that the grout can penetrate the slits in the screened interval of MW-4. Also contain any displaced water generated during the well destructions. The EHD approves the work plan with these revisions.
