Adsorbed Diesel Mass-Volume Calculations
GREWAL'S MARKET
' 4100 East Fremont Street, Stockton CA
Assumptions:
1 Utilizing Figures b, Sand 10,the mass distribution of diesel concentrations greater than 10,000 mg/kg can be
approximated utilizing the equation for a coned-ellipse shape.
' The volume of an coned ellipse can be calculated by the formula:
V..=(long diam.)(short diam.)(0.7854)(1A height), where"a"is the long diameter of the coned
ellipse, "b"is the short diameter and"c"is the height.
The mass distribution of gasoline concentrations greater than 1,000 mg/kg, above 40 feet bsg, can be
' approximated utilizing the equation for a cylindrical ellipse.
The volume of a cylindrical ellipse can be calculated by the formula:
Vwne=(long diam.)(short diatn.)(0.7854)(height),where"a"is the long diameter of the cylindrical
ellipse,"b" is the short diameter and"c"is the height.
' The mass distribution of diesel concentrations greater than 1,000 mg/kg below 40 feet bsg, and the mass
distribution of diesel concentrations greater than 1.0 mg/kg,can be approximated with a volumetric equation
utilizing thickness and area A(determined by Autocad drawing aprogram).
' The volume can be calculated by the formula:
V,•n•=(Autocad-determined area)(thic"ess).
' The average TPH-d concentration was utilized for diesel-impacted area greater than 10,000 milligrams per kilogram
(mg/kg), for the diesel-impacted area greater than 1,000 mg/kg and for the diesel-impacted area greater than 1 mg/kg;
' the average was calculated by summing the detected TPH-d concentrations for each area and dividing by the total number
of detections. The average TPH-d concentration for the area greater than 10,000 mg/kg was calculated to be 11,500
mg/kg;the average TPH-d concentration for the area greater than 1,000 mg/kg was calculated to be 3,300 mg/kg;the
' average TPH-d concentration for the area greater than 1 mg/kg was calculated to be 155 mg/kg.
1
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
1
