Soil samples were preserved by covering both ends
of the brass sleeve with Teflon sheets, capping, and sealing with tape. Each sample sleeve was
labeled with soil probe boring location, depth, time, date and sampler's initials.
Each preserved sample was logged on a chain-of-custody form, placed in a chilled container and
transported to a California Department of Health Services (DHS)-certified laboratory under chain
of custody; selected samples were analyzed for:
TPH-g and TPH-d by EPA Method 5030/8015M;
- BTEX and MTBE by EPA Method 8020; and
1 - Tertiary butanol (TBA), di-isopropyl ether (DIPE), ethyl tert butyl ether (ETBE) and tert
amyl methyl ether(TAME), and MTBE by EPA Method 8260 Modified.
71
3.1.2 . Ground Water Sample Collection
lie A grab ground water sample was collected from P-8 utilizing hydro-punch technology. A Geoprobe
water sampling assembly was advanced to a depth approximately four feet below the water table
utilizing hollow steel rods. The hollow steel rods were then retracted upward approximately four
feet,thereby exposing a PVC screen to ground water. A bailer fitting was then placed on the end of
3/8-inch diameter polyethylene tubing, inserted through the rod assembly into the exposed screen,
1 through which water was manually pumped. Sufficient sample was collected from boring P-8 to fill
three 40-m1 EPA-approved VOA vials containing 0.5 ml 18% hydrochloric acid as a preservative
and one 1-liter amber bottle. Ground water sample containers were labeled with probe boring
designation, date, time, and samplers initials.
The preserved sample was logged on a chain-of-custody form, placed in a chilled container and
1 transported to a DHS-certified laboratory; selected samples were analyzed for:
TPH-g and TPH-d by EPA Method 5030/8015M;
' - BTEX with MTBE by EPA Method 602;'and
TBA, DIPE, ETBE, TAME and MTBE by EPA Method 8260 Modified.
3.1-3.
