Y:.
i;
4 _
27 September 1999
AGE-NC Project No. 97-0327
Faint petroleum hydrocarbon odor was noted in a grab ground water sample collected from probing
P-8.
4.3 ANALYTICAL RESULTS OF SOIL SAMPLES
A total of thirteen soil samples were submitted to DHS-certified laboratories (Castle Analytical
Laboratory and McCampbell Analytical Inc.) for analysis as noted above. TPH-g was detected in
the 40-foot soil sample collected from boring P-8 at a concentration of 340 mg/kg. TPH-d was
detected in the 40-foot soil sample collected from P-8 at a concentration of 37 mg/kg; the laboratory
reported that unmodified or weakly modified diesel is significant.
BTEX compounds were detected in the 40-foot soil samples collected from the P-6 and P-8 at
concentrations ranging as high as 20 mg/kg;MTBE was detected in the 40-foot soil sample collected
from P-8 at a concentration of 0.019 mg/kg. No other fuel oxygenated compounds were detected
during the laboratory analysis of selected soil samples. Analytical results of soil samples are
summarized in Table 2. The laboratory report(Castle Analytical Laboratory Reference No. 2331 and
McCambell Analytical Inc. Lab I.D. 14311 through 14323) and chain-of-custody are included in
Appendix B.
The estimated extent of petroleum hydrocarbon-impacted soil is depicted in cross sectional view
A -A ' in Figure 4.
4.4 ANALYTICAL RESULTS OF GROUND WATER SAMPLES
Grab ground water samples were collected from boring P-8 and submitted to DHS-certified
laboratories for analysis as noted above. TPH-g and TPH-d were detected in the ground water sample
at a concentration of 1,900 micrograms per liter (µg/l); however, the laboratory reported that the
diesel chromatogram for the sample did not have typical diesel characteristics.
BTEX compounds were detected in the ground water sample at concentrations ranging as high as
310 µg/l; dissolved benzene was detected at a concentration of 230 ,ug/l. Dissolved MTBE was
detected at a concentration of 51 yg/l utilizing EPA Method 8020 and confirmed at a concentration
- of 52 ug/l,utilizing-EPA Method 8260:
No other fuel oxygenated compounds were detected during the laboratory analysis of the ground
water sample. Analytical results of ground water samples are summarized in Table 3. The laboratory
. report(Castle Analytical Laboratory Reference No. 2331 and McCampbell Analytical Inc. Lab ID
I143 24) and chain-of-custody,are included in Appendix B.
Arh-anced GeoEnvironmenlal,Inc.
