IT Corporation was contacted in July of
1985 b
y personnel from the Carnation Distribution Center on East Fremont
Street in Stockton, California (refer to Figure d) . A request was made to
investigate an underground wash water receiving sump tank and prepare a report
with findings and recommendations. Carnation's concern was directed towards
the recently enacted California underground tank' regulations. The tank is
located by the southeast corner of the warehouse inside the fenced boundaries
of the property (see Figure 2) . The sump tank historically was used to
contain wash water from fork trucks, the warehouse floor, and drains from the
maintenance shop sink and floor. Discharge from the maintenance shop also
included motor oils from regular equipment maintenance. The tank is currently
pumped out about once per month. This frequency1correlates closely with the
total monthly water consumption of the facillity which averages 1,500
gallons/month.
