22 August 2003
AGE-NC Project No. 02-0896
1 with the Unified Soil Classification System. Soil boring logs exhibiting soil profiles are depicted in
Appendix A.
4.0. FINDINGS
The shallow subsurface soil profile was modeled from visual description of soil samples collected
from the soil boring at the site. The potential contamination to soil was assessed by laboratory
1 analysis of selected samples.Discussion of shallow subsurface soil profile and soil analytical results
are presented below.
' 4.1. STRATIGRAPHY
Dark brown to gray, alternating layers of silty clay and silt containing gravel were encountered from
the surface to depths of approximately 35 feet bsg, gray claywas encountered between 35 and 40 feet
bsg, and brown fine sand with silt was encountered at 50 feet bsg; there was no soil recovery at
'• 45 feet bsg.
Organic vapor was detected in the soil samples collected at a maximum concentration of 225 parts
per million (ppm) in soil sample P1-20. Hydrocarbon-like odor was detected in five of the soil
samples from the boring. The soil boring logs are provided in Appendix A; organic vapor field
measurements are included on the boring logs.
4.2. ANALYTICAL RESULTS OF SOIL SAMPLES
TPH- was detected in soil samples P1-20 P1-25 P1-30 and P1-35 at concentrations between
g p ,
4.2 milligrams per kilogram(mg/kg or parts per million: ppm)in sample P 1-30 to 11,000 mg/kg in
sample P 1-20.
Toluene,ethylbenzene and xylenes were detected in samples P 1-25,P 1-30 and P 1-3 5,ethylbenzene
and xylenes were detected in sample P 1-20,and xylenes were detected in sample P 1-40,at maximum
concentrations of 3.1 mg/kg toluene(P 1-25), 11 mg/kg ethylbenzene(P 1-20)and 600 mg/kg xylenes
' (P 1-20).
No additional target analytes were detected at or above laboratory detection limits in the samples
' analyzed.Analytical results of soil samples are summarized on Table 1.The laboratory report(CTEL
Lab Project. No. CT214-0303012) and chain-of-custody are provided in Appendix B.
Advanced Geo Environmental,Inc.
