i <br /> t o Accident/incident Reporting Procedures <br /> o Decontamination/Contamination Reduction Procedures <br /> The Project Manager and the Site Safety Officer have the authority to suspend work anytime they determine <br /> that the provisions of the plan are inadequate'to ensure worker safety. The Project Site Safety Officer shall <br /> also inform the Project Manager of individuals whose conduct is not consistent with the requirements of the <br />' plan. <br /> a <br /> The following is a list of safety officer and supervisor responsibilities: <br /> Identify emergency officials; <br /> Identify chemicals and their toxicities; <br /> Provide for first aid; <br /> 'Perform site safety meeting; <br /> Ensure proper protective gear is available and utilized - instruct employees in use and maintenance; <br /> Evaluate potential hazards, both old and new, physical contact- lacerations,sprains, burns; inhalation <br /> and absorption through skin, nose; <br /> electrical; <br /> Layout contaminated and clean zones; <br /> Note and communicate locations of emergency equipment; <br /> Promote use of the buddy system and immediate notification of toxic effects; <br /> Note possible explosion or fire hazards. <br /> 4 <br /> Records of the above items will be documented as they are defined and implemented in the site safety <br /> meeting. <br /> k <br /> SECTION 3.0 JOB HAZARD ANALYSIS <br /> f <br /> 3.1 GENERAL BACKGROUND <br /> The possible contaminant present on site is organics and lead from gasoline andlor diesel fuel. The gasoline <br /> and diesel fuel were stored in underground storage tanks which have been removed. <br /> t 3.2 WASTE DESCRIPTION <br /> i <br /> Diesel Fuel <br /> The hazardous constituent of diesel fuel is benzene. Benzene comprises approximately 0.002 to <br /> 0.011% of the total fuel mixture. Dermal contact with diesel fuel can cause minor eye irritation and <br /> dermal rash. Prolonged breathing of vapors can impact on the central nervous system. Diesel fuel is <br /> j not generally expected to have acute systemic toxicity by ingestion. Ingestion of diesel fuel and/or <br />' subsequent vomiting can result in aspiration of light hydrocarbon liquid which can cause pneumonitis. <br /> There is no Federal or State OSHA PEL or ACGIH TLV standard established for diesel fuel. <br /> i <br />
