SITECODE: 0001557
2771 East French Camp Road
Manteca, California 95336
San Joaquin County Environm nI Health Department (EHD) has reviewed comments by Kiff
Analytical LLC (Kiff) dated Jy 7, 2006, concerning sample chromatographic patterns for soil
and grab groundwater samples collected at the above-referenced site in October, 2004, and
analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel (TPH-diesel)by United States Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA) SW-846 method 8015. EHD had requested Kiff's review of the
chromatograms to determine whether the soil and groundwater sample patterns matched fuel
chromatographic patterns for the diesel standard. EHD had also requested that Kiff review the
sample chromatograms from the analysis by EPA SW-846 method 8260B for comparison to the
gasoline standard, and possible correlations with the discrete peaks found during the sample
analysis by method 8015B.
Kiff determined that the sample chromatograms did not exhibit a typical diesel or gasoline
chromatographic pattern, and tentatively identified one peak as dodecane and identified another
peak as chloroform. EHD believes this information, along with very low concentrations for TPH-
diesel found in one soil and three groundwater samples, and low concentrations for ethanol and
TPH-gasoline found only in two groundwater samples, may warrant site closure.
If you can demonstrate that this site does not require further action according to the Central
Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board (CVRWQCB) Tri-Regional Board Staff
Recommendations document, then a closure/no further action required report should be prepared
and submitted to EHD and the CVRWQCB by January 31, 2007.
Should you have any questions or concerns regarding this letter, please contact Vicki McCartney
at(209)468-3456, or by electronic mail at vmccartncy@sjcchd.com.
Donna Heran, RENS, Director
Environmental Health Department
Victoria L.
